Infragistics Develops Custom User Interface on Silverlight for Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3

Creative UI Solution Delivers Rich Immersive User Experience on Consumer Internet Device (CID)

Princeton, N.J. & Elstree, United Kingdom – September 22, 2009
— Infragistics, a world leader in user interface (UI) development tools and experts in the User Experience (UX) market, announced today that it has developed a customized User Interface on Silverlight for Windows Embedded,  the new Silverlight-based  UI framework released with Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3.  Designed for a touch tablet Consumer Internet Device (CID), Infragistics leverages the capabilities inherent in Silverlight to build a visually-appealing and intuitive UI that delivers a compelling user experience.

"We are excited to work with Infragistics as part of the Microsoft ecosystem as they drive immersive user experiences on CIDs," said David Wurster, senior product manager for Windows Embedded at Microsoft. "Infragistics' customized UI on the new Silverlight for Windows Embedded UI framework demonstrates the opportunity for OEMs to leverage the Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3 platform to help differentiate their devices with compelling UIs, rich Internet applications and seamless connectivity to Windows 7-based PC, servers and online services."

Infragistics, a Microsoft Design Partner, was charged with developing a UI using Silverlight for a 7" touch tablet CID demonstration that is based in the home. The home owner has a wireless network with their content such as music, videos and pictures, stored on a Windows Personal Computer (PC).  When the home owner unpacks the device, it visually prompts the user to connect to the PC to start synching between the device and the Windows 7-based PC.

"Given the user scenario, we knew that the UI needed to reflect pre-installed applications that 'consume content' as opposed to general purpose applications that 'create content' which requires a different UX methodology," said Grant Hinkson, director of Experience Design at Infragistics.  "Under this premise, we developed a UI design that end users will naturally understand and relate to with large, clear action areas that take into consideration the way they will hold and interact with the device."

Infragistics' customized UI for Windows Embedded devices will be highlighted during the Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3 launch demo during the industry keynote address at the Embedded Systems Conference in Boston on September 22.  Infragistics will also be in attendance and available for further discussion about UI development for embedded devices at the Windows Embedded Booth #400.

Infragistics' User Experience team is comprised of a group of experts with numerous years of experience publishing, speaking on, and working with UX.
