Is there any way to customize the needle like this?
The current IGGradientBrush handles gradients, but it does so at a very strange angle. I have a feature request over at http://ideas.infragistics.com/forums/211525-nuclios/suggestions/5548814-add-angular-gradients-to-gauge-view to add more gradient support to IGBrush. Or heck, something else entirely that would allow me to draw on a CALayer.

However, we did see your idea and it's definitely something we're looking into improving.

Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to work on this because performance tuning IGChart has been my top priority. I'll definitely revisit adding this functionality to the app, but my current implementation will suffice for v1.0.

The Service Release for Nuclios was released on the 11th of April. Have you been able to verify that it resolves the issue you were facing?
Dave, like I replied above, I am working on performance tuning IGChart. In the next month I expect to revisit the gauges in my app and implement fancier features.
