Basically what I want is that box in the upper left to be hidden but always have that space still there, even for rows that don't have the expansion indicator. Otherwise it doesn't look very hierarchical...
I have created a sample project for you with the functionality you want. Basically I copied the default Style of the DataRecordPresenter and set its HeaderAreaBackground to White and the BorderThiknees of a Border called "fill" to 0. I also added a Style for the LabelPresenter and set its Background to Transparent. Please let me know if this helps you or you have further questions on this matter.
Thanks! It didn't do all of what I wanted to do but I made a converter that turns the expansion indicator to hidden instead of collapsed and now it's properly hierarchical.
