You can use the Initialize client-side event of the grid to access the currently selected row(s). In order to do that you could use :

sender.get_behaviors().get_selection().get_selectedRowsResolved()

That will return the collection of selected rows. To get the first row, for instance, you can use:

sender.get_behaviors().get_selection().get_selectedRowsResolved()[0]

The sender argument in this case is the grid object itself so that could be substituted with $find("WebDataGrid1") anywhere on the client.
