NetAdvantage® Select .NET controls and Visual Studio® 2005

The .NET Framework 2.0 and Visual Studio 2005 was a great step forward for the development of Windows Forms and ASP.NET applications, and remains the benchmark for application development by many organizations because it continues to offer the powerful features such as Membership and Role Management, Master Pages, Themes and Skins that are now part of an increasing number of applications.

Infragistics strengthens your Visual Studio 2005 development with its NetAdvantage Select toolset which integrates with many of the capabilities that the .NET Framework 2.0 and the Visual Studio 2005 IDE have to offer. Infragistics retains its value as the leading UI development tools vendor by continually extending the NetAdvantage toolset's functionality by adding new Windows Forms and ASP.NET controls and features not included in the standard .NET Framework control set.

Difference between NetAdvantage Select and other NetAdvantage .NET Products

NetAdvantage Select combines all Infragistics Windows Forms and ASP.NET controls together as part of one toolset. You can also get these same controls as part of the complete NetAdvantage for .NET toolset; or you can get them separately as part of the NetAdvantage for Win Client or NetAdvantage for Web Client toolsets, respectively. Everything said here about NetAdvantage Select also applies to the Windows Forms or ASP.NET controls in these other products, however since these other products also include controls for WPF and Silverlight line of business applications which require Visual Studio 2008 for design-time support they are not mentioned further here.

Taking Advantage of the Visual Studio 2005 Features in NetAdvantage Select Controls

NetAdvantage Select's .NET controls extend the functionality of the Visual Studio 2005 standard controls and integrate within the IDE.

With NetAdvantage Select and Visual Studio 2005 you can:

  • Seamlessly integrate NetAdvantage Select controls into your applications built with Visual Studio 2005
  • Easily migrate your existing applications built with prior versions of NetAdvantage to Visual Studio 2005
  • Simplify deployment of your ASP.NET applications

NetAdvantage Select extends the functionality of Visual Studio 2005 in the following ways

Perform calculations with standard controls - Apply Excel-style calculation to any standard Framework control that accepts input including the Microsoft Windows Forms Grid and the Microsoft ASP.NET DataGrid.

NetAdvantage WinEditors in Microsoft Windows Forms Grid - NetAdvantage editors can now extend the columns in the Microsoft Windows Forms grid to give more powerful data input capabilities.

Editors that are available for use in the Microsoft Windows Forms grid include:

  • WinTextEditor™
  • WinColorPicker™
  • WinComboEditor™
  • WinOptionSet™
  • WinFontNameEditor™
  • WinCalculator™
  • WinDateTimeEditor™
  • WinCalculatorDropdown™
  • WinCurrencyEditor™
  • WinProgressBar™
  • WinNumericEditor™
  • WinCalendarCombo™
  • WinCheckEditor™
  • WinMaskedEdit™
  • WinTrackBar™

Simplified Deployment of ASP.NET applications - By packaging all JavaScript and necessary image files for each ASP.NET control in its assembly, all Infragistics ASP.NET controls deploy simply and easily by just copying the required assembly (or assemblies) without having to create virtual directories or make any modifications to your Web server.

Interactive Design Surface - Interact directly with the Infragistics tools at design time without having to use the property window. Our active design surface creates natural interactivity by allowing you to perform actions such as changing the tab with a single click. This increases productivity by eliminating the need to leave the Visual Studio designer window.

NetAdvantage Select integrates directly into Visual Studio 2005 in the following ways:

Superior DataBinding Support - All data-aware controls in the NetAdvantage toolset provide support for the Data Binding controls introduced in Visual Studio 2005 - including the new ObjectDataSource control.

Data Source Window Integration for Windows Forms Application - Provides support for use of the NetAdvantage Select .NET controls inside the DataSource Window. Relationships can be easily assigned between a data column and an editor, or a datatable and a databindable control. Thereafter, when a field or table is dropped onto a form, Visual Studio will create an instance of the assigned editor or databindable control.

Base and Snap Lines for Windows Forms - Built in support for Base Line and Snap Lines – allowing greater ease in aligning controls.

ImageList Keys for Windows Forms Applications - Allow programmers to assign a string name to an item in an ImageList. The appearance object has been altered to support this functionality, and now the image property of an appearance can be set to the key of an image in an associated ImageList.

ASP.NET Theming Support - Skin NetAdvantage and in-box controls using a common theme.

Managed Theming APIs for Windows Forms - When Windows Forms controls controls are used in an environment where the code does not have full permissions/unmanaged code rights, the controls can now be rendered with the current XP or Vista® themes.

Smart Tags Support - Smart Tags provide developers with an improved design time experience by enabling quick access to the most commonly used settings without having to leave the Visual Studio designer surface.

Native CLR 2.0 Support:

Infragistics .NET controls natively work on CLR 2.0 and up, allowing it to take dependencies on new types introduced in CLR 2.0, add generic-typed members to its API and add capabilities that are binary compatible with assemblies compiled according to the CLR 2.0 IL instruction set.
