Blazing Silverlight Performance Whitepaper

Jason Beres [Infragistics] / Thursday, September 17, 2009

If you have tested out our new Silverlight xamWebGrid, you're probably seeing some impressive performance when binding, rendering, scrolling, paging and sorting your large (and small) data sets.  We spent a pretty significant amount of time performance tuning the grid with the many scenarios that you have all helped us identity when building line of business applications.

I am pleased to announce a whitepaper that compares our grid with some of the other Silverlight grids on the market, to show how we are really taking performance seriously in a proactive manner.  To read all of the good stuff, download the whitepaper from here:

To give you an idea of some of the operations we are testing, here is the grid performance binding to an ObservableCollection with 10 columns and 1,000,000 rows of data, and how it compares to the competition:

IG XamWebGrid™ Competitor I Competitor II
Time duration in ms 1,949 2,878 47% Slower 5,463 180% Slower
Memory Usage Before in KB 91,756 90,183 1% Less 89,891 2% Less
Memory Usage After in KB 95,726 232,346 142% More 109,603 14% More

also get an idea of how and when we perform tests, and the methodology we are using to perform all tests.  I'd love to hear your feedback on the whitepaper, and am looking forward to more emails from customers who continue to validate the work we are doing in Silverlight performance.  As we all know, there are many touchpoints for an exceptional user experience, and performance is high on that list.
