The Lure of Accounting Software

Tobias Komischke / Friday, May 11, 2012

Accounting programs don’t have the greatest reputation when it comes to user experience. They tend to be functional. UX? - Hmmm. Are people proud working with their applications? - *silence*.

I actually heard someone explaining: “Accounting is not that exciting, so why would those folks need exciting software"?”. Obviously, there’s a lot wrong with that statement but I don’t even want to go into that.

Instead, I liked what the founder of SAP had to say about UX in a recent interview he gave:

"SAP has to constantly look in the mirror and ask itself at each site: which of our products are successful and why? Even accounting software can and must be enjoyable - both for the makers and the users. Customers must want it because it works perfectly and is easy to use. That's the key to everything."

- Hasso Plattner, Founder of SAP.
