+1 *shakes head*
I'm trying to upgrade to NetAdvantage WinForms 2008 Vol 3. Based on past experience, this should take about one hour. Going on four hours now.
I'm looking for the Help installer for WinForms. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 and .NET 3.5, so it seemed obvious that the file I needed was NetAdvantage_Help_20083_CLR35.exe. WRONG! This only has help content for ASP.NET. It wasn't until I read this post that it became clear that the file I REALLY wanted was NetAdvantage_Help_20083_CLR20.exe.
Hi Brandon,
Yes, you are correct, there were a couple of products that we didn't split out into separate installers due to time constraints. For the 9.1 releases, all of the platforms have the correct help/sample/product MSI's so it shouldn't be confusing.
If you get 9.1 and are still shaking your head, please re-post.
Sorry about the confusion,
Jason
More questions...
When installing the NetAdvantage WinForms 8.3 Samples,
- why does the installer force you to install to either the [All Users]\My Documents or [User]\My Documents folder instead of the standard [Program Files] folder?
- why does the install not allow the user to specify the destination path?
Thanks!
There is an issue with permissions on Vista that force us to install executables to folders that we have access to, so we are forced to install to the "C:\" drive or the "My Documents/Public Documents" folders. To avoid having a Vista install and an XP/2000 install, we created a single install that uses the shared folders.
As to why we don't let you change the path, I am not sure about that. I can look check with DS on that to see if it is a reported issue or if there is some other reason we aren't opening that up.
