When using the Page Designer I am unable too drop controls onto each other. For example, I place a grid control onto the canvas, then drag a tree control to place it in the left column of the grid and the tree control is placed outside the grid and below it. Any idea why this is happening?

This is not currently possible. You need to define your column template settings manually in the code window, similar to the way it is done in this sample.
