I have an old version of NetAdvantage that has been used for numerous old projects that I manage and support. Specifically, the last version that I've used of Net Advantage was 2006 v.3. Yes, I know this is ridiculously old but for the sake of brevity, I'll just say that I must still manage and support these applications but I can not upgrade my Net Advantage version.
When Windows 7 and Visual Studio 2010 came out, I learned that I could not install this old version into VS, through the installer. I was instructed by Infragistics support to upgrade my runtime. As I mentioned, that is not possibility. So, my question is this-- is there some way that I can manually install these old runtimes and licenses into Windows 7 machine and Visual Studio 2012?
My reason is because this is the only issue that is keeping a really old (and dying) Windows XP dev box on my desk. It needs to be replaced and I would like to migrate my applications to VS 2012.
I'm not afraid of command prompts, config files and XML file modification. Is there any general information that I can be given that may help me hack NetAdvantage 2006 v.3 into Visual Studio 2012?
Thank you.
Hello,
I can image that you would be able to use those assemblies in your projects in VS 2012, but I do not see how you would have them fully working with the designer and etc.
Please note that we do not have any official support for v6.3 for Studio 2012: http://www.infragistics.com/help/supported-environments/.
I am checking about the progress of this issue. Please let me know If you need any further assistance on this.
Boris,
Thank you for your response but my hope was (and still is) that someone in Infragistics could at least casually mention a few, high-level steps that I could follow to get these DLLs in VS 2012. I understand that this is a old runtime that is no longer supported. Still, I'd appreciate any "unofficial" tips that could help me get my projects working, within VS on my Windows 7, dev machine.
Again, I'm not looking for explicit instructions. I'm just looking for a few pointers that could lead me in the right direction. If this isn't possible, let me know. Thank you.
I want to assist you in the best way possible but please understand that we do not have any tips at all about these scenarios. The technology you are referring to is very old indeed and no one back then could have known about the technologies today, so there is not really that can be done to fully support v6.3 in Visual Studio 2012.
Thank you for using our components and for the understanding!
Boris, although this isn't what I hoped to hear, this is certainly an acceptable answer. I get it. The frame work we use is "ancient" in technical terms. Regardless, thanks for keeping up with this.
