When Should I Use Ignite UI Web Components?

Hi, I’m exploring Ignite UI Web Components and I’m not sure what the ideal use cases are. In what situations do Web Components make more sense compared to using a framework-specific solution like React or Angular?

Are they better suited for micro-frontends? Do they help when working across multiple frameworks? Are there performance or deployment advantages? Any downsides to be aware of? A lot of questions but I want to understand things better and start my project.

    Hello Radka,

First things first, Web Components aren’t meant to replace React or Angular. They solve a different problem. If you’re building a single app in one framework and you’re happy staying there long term, a framework-specific solution is usually perfectly fine. Web Components start to make more sense when flexibility and reuse matter to you.

For example, if your company has multiple apps built with different frameworks, Web Components let you build one UI layer that works everywhere. Instead of maintaining separate React, Angular, and other versions of the same components, you can create one standards-based component library and reuse it across projects.

They’re also useful if you’re building or utilizing a design system that needs to be shared between teams, or if you’re working in a micro-frontend setup where different parts of the application might use different technologies. Because Web Components are based on browser standards, they act like a neutral layer that isn’t tied to one framework.

Another reason teams choose them is long-term flexibility. Web Components are built on native browser APIs, so they reduce the risk of being locked into a specific ecosystem. That doesn’t mean frameworks are going away, just that your UI layer can be more portable.

    I hope this answer helps.
