Hi, we noticed slowness (10 - 15 seconds) on grid preview when mark a redirected printer as the default printer, even with redirected Microsoft XPS printer. When default printer is local printer, there is no issue. Is there a way to fix it?
Thanks,
Crystal.
Hi Crystal,
Thank you for posting in our forums!
As far as I understand, the main time difference is between using local versus external printer. In general, this delay is expected and depends on the network’s speed, router’s latency, print’s model etc.
Have you ever been able to print preview the same amount of data via using redirected (external) printer for less than 10 – 15 seconds? Does this issue occur with only one printer or it is valid for all external printers? Have you installed new drivers on the printer recently? Can you isolate the issue in small sample project and send it back to me? Did this slowness start occurring after upgrading the version of our product?
I am waiting for your response.
Hi, thank you for your reply. I created a small project. Here are the steps:
1. Put the project on one pc, OS is either win7 Enterprise or win 10
2. Use remote desktop to connect to the pc from another pc. "Local devices and resources" is checked for "Printers" in Remote Desktop Connect, "Local Resources" tab.
3. On the first pc, choose a printer from second pc as default printer,
4. Run the sample application, click on <Grid Preview>. You'll notice the slowness.
I didn't see the slowness issue on windows server 2012 r2.
Thank you for providing me with steps for reproducing your issue!
In fact, I confirm the slowness you had referenced to, but the delay is between 5 to 7 seconds on average, which is completely normal when the first computer uses the redirected printer of the second one. Probably Windows Server 2012 r2 has some networking latency improvements over Windows 7 and Windows 10. As a result, we are with tied hands in your scenario.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions regarding this matter.
Hi, thank you for looking into this. It's a lot slower using win10 and win 7 virtual machine, the average delay is 25+ seconds. Out client found out it's getting slower after upgrade. Is there any way to improve this?
In order to ensure that we have not introduced a regression issue or no changes are made in the part of code related to the UltraPrintPreview. Can you please share with me what’s the latest customer version or yours of our controls where this issue doesn’t occur and the UltraPrintPreview dialog is faster?
