I have been looking into your requirement and even though there is no built-in functionality you can use the Microsoft VisualTreeHelper class to access the typed in text like so:

Grid innerGrid =VisualTreeHelper.GetChild( VisualTreeHelper.GetChild(VisualTreeHelper.GetChild(xamMultiColumnComboEditor1, 0), 0),0) as Grid;

SpecializedTextBox stb = innerGrid.Children[4] as SpecializedTextBox;

stb.Text.ToString();
