Hi, (using 1026.1)
I am using the igGrid with filtering and I would like to achieve 2 things:
1) get rid of the filter icon that is present on the filter fields.
2) instead of having to click on the icon to get the drop-down with the filters (should be impossible if there are no icons from step 1 )
I would like to have the drop-down appear when I click in the filter cell.
I found no way to programmatically show the filter drop-down.
(I only found ways to programmatically show the advanced filter dialog.)
I also cannot find a filter-cell-click event to tie the two together.
Do you have any suggestions on how to achieve the above?
Thanks,
Hello G,
Thank you for posting in our forums!
You can set the renderFilterButton option to achieve point #1.
For programmatically displaying the dropdown, this has been determined to be a new product idea. You can suggest new product ideas for future versions (or vote for existing ones) at http://ideas.infragistics.com.
A workaround I can suggest you to look into would be handling your own dropdown when clicking on the inputs and setting the filter condition using the condition option of the columnSetting.
There are many benefits to submitting a product idea:
- Direct communication with our product management team regarding your product idea.- Notifications whenever new information regarding your idea becomes available.- Ability to vote on your favorite product ideas to let us know which ones are the most important to you. You will have ten votes for this and can change which ideas you are voting for at any time.- Allow you to shape the future of our products by requesting new controls and products altogether.- You and other developers can discuss existing product ideas with members of our Product Management team.
Steps to create your idea:
1. Log into the Infragistics Product Idea site at http://ideas.infragistics.com (creating a new login if needed).2. Navigate to the product / platform channel of your choice (e.g. WPF, Windows Forms, ASP.NET, HTML5 / Ignite UI, iOS / NucliOS, etc.)3. Add your product idea and be sure to be specific and provide as much detail as possible. • Explain the context in which a feature would be used, why it is needed, why it can’t be accomplished today, and who would benefit from it. You can even add screenshots to build a stronger case. Remember that for your suggestion to be successful, you need other members of the community to vote for it. Be convincing! • Include a link to this thread in your idea so product management will be able to look back at this case.
The Product Idea site puts you in the driver’s seat and allows you to track the progress of your ideas at any time, see how many votes it got, read comments from other developers in the community, and see if someone from the product team has additional questions for you.
Thank you for contacting Infragistics.
Hi Michael,
thanks for your suggestion about switching off the icon.
The workaround you suggested might actually be a pretty good solution as our final requirement is to be able to provide Excel-like unique value filtering/choice.
Googling about this requirement it seems people in the past have requested but only hacks using undocumented functions were suggested.
How do I go about using my own combo for the filter cell?
Do I replace the Filter cell template to use my own combo?
Are there any examples for that?
There is no "onClick" event exposed for the filter cell.
Can you explain how your workaround will work?
Thanks
Hi G,
You will need to create your own combo since there are no templates for the filtering. We do not expose any events for clicking the filter editors. You could handle this by wiring up a basic jQuery click hander like so:
$("#grid_container").on("click", ".ui-iggrid-filtereditor", function(evt){ // Open custom dropdown.});
Setting renderFilterButton to false will cause the grid to not render its own dropdowns, since it is not expecting to be able to open (since the button is not showing). So you will not need to worry about the grid's dropdowns getting in your way with this.
Then, when the user makes their selection, you can set the columnSettings and the condition based on the user's selection as I mentioned in my last update.
I would still recommend submitting a new product idea since this is a workaround with a custom implementation.
If you have any more specific question with how to accomplish this, please let me know.
