Hi there!
I'm currently fixing up old application that was initially developed in VB6 (well, that was more probably VB4 or VB5, but from contemporary point of view...) So it was made using Sheridan SSControls, in particular:
Application was converted to .Net, and I'd love to get rid of all those ActiveX, but I wasn't able to find any documentation about those controls over the internet, so I generally can just test them as black boxes, and make guesses.
According to some traces in internet, Sheridan was once acquired by Infragistics, so I think that's you guys whom I have to ask about any help. If even you have no idea where me to look, well, I'd be happy to read some general description about those controls and why are they that special over built in VB6 ones. Where to look, what to pay attention for, etc.
Thx,
Andriy Kvasnytsya
Hi Andriy,
Those controls are long retired, they are ActiveX controls as far as I know and do not have many things in common with our controls.
There are not any official articles on those controls. I suggest you upgrade to v13.1 of NetAdvantage and feel free to let me know if you have any questions.
Hi Boris,
The point is that I need to reproduce existing functionality with the new means. And even if I purchase NetAdvantage, that won't help me to understand, which control to replace with what, and what properties to set. I need to understand Sheridan controls before upgrading them to NetAdvantage, standard WinForms, or whatever.
Perhaps you can dig in your archives and come up with an old PDF or Windows HLP file or something that describes the functions and events of these controls? Otherwise we're stuck to trial-and-error, which is very time consuming.

Okay, here is the answer:
Sheridan Controls were bundled with Visual Studio, but probably pre-VB5. So help files for them were available in Visual Studio itself.
File name was CTRLREF.HPL, currently you can find it here. You'll probably also need Windows Help program capable to work on modern computer.
And to conclude: those controls are to be replaced with regular Button, CheckBox, RadioButton, Panel, GroupBox respectively. They had some fancy UI things that in most cases you can safely ignore, unless you like to preserve 100% authentic interface.
Boris, I think it would be good idea for you to grab that files (don't forget *.CNT file) and attach to this thread. Just in case someone else will be looking for it in five years or something:)
